Wondering what to expect of Generals Cheer, and what WE will expect of YOU?
Let’s break it down…
-

Practices
We practice twice a week in Old Greenwich.. Practices have historically been Tuesdays and Fridays from 5:00pm - 6:30/7:00pm for cheerleaders, and Tuesdays from 5:00pm - 6:00pm for mascots, but is subject to revision each year.
Starting in October, we add Saturday practices for our big Expo.
Because safety is our priority, athletes that cannot regularly attend practice cannot participate in the stunts that their squad puts up. Similarly, athletes that cannot regularly attend practice are not guaranteed a place in their squad’s Expo routine.

Pre-Season Camp
We ask all our Junior and Senior cheerleaders to attend a 3-day UCA/NCA cheer camp before the start of school, where we learn our halftime cheers, a couple new chants, and safe stunting and jumping technique. Thanks to our annual Greenery fundraiser, we are able to largely subsidize this wonderful bonding experience!
Bantams have a 1-day camp of their own, where they get to know their teammates, as well as the basics of stunting and cheer.
Tentative 2026 UCA Camp Dates: August 24-26
Tentative 2026 Bantam Camp Day: TBD

Volunteering
We can't do this without YOU!
We ask that all parents volunteer at some point in the season, often for just 30-60 minutes. This can be as simple as cleaning up after Pep Rally, taking a 30-minute shift at Expo, or helping set up the Banquet. Other parents bring a little more to the program and sign up as coaches. Do you need cheer experience to coach? Nope! It helps, but it’s not required!
With a program as large as ours, we always need extra hands. Plus, it gives us a chance to know the parents as well as the girls!🤗

Purchases
Once your son or daughter is registered for Generals Cheer, here are the items we expect you to purchase for them:
-a cheer jacket (through us);
-navy leggings;
-white no-show socks; and
-white cheer sneakers.
We provide poms, season shirt and all bow(s).
Uniforms are rented on an annual basis, and the rental fee is $20.
There is a fitting day for cheer sneakers, where athletes can purchase sneakers through us. Otherwise, we provide links for where they can be purchased!

A Bag
Yes, a bag. You can purchase a Generals Bag in the Spirit Store, or you can simply use one of your own, but we ask that each athlete have a dedicated bag for cheer. Not a reusable shopping bag or a drawstring bag, but a proper bag (duffel bag or back pack) that is only used for Generals cheer. To keep their poms in, carry a water bottle, and to pin their Spirit Stick Winner pins to.
